Barrie Moorman

Barrie Moorman is a leader, educator, and facilitator with a demonstrated commitment to educational access and equity. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Abramson Scholarship Foundation. ASF provides critical financial assistance and comprehensive mentoring to DC high school graduates to support their college access and success. As the Executive Director, Barrie oversees the strategy and execution of the scholarship and mentoring programming, while also managing operations, fundraising, and communications for the organization.

Barrie has two decades of hands-on experience with students in Washington DC schools, including as a founding teacher at two charter high schools. For 12 years she worked at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School, where she designed and taught social studies curriculum and crafted high-impact experiential learning experiences, including the signature Civil Rights Tour of the South. Barrie received the DC History Teacher of the Year award, the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year award, and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Barrie facilitates race, equity, diversity and inclusion professional development for schools, community organizations, school districts, and non-profit organizations. She is a Seeding Disruption fellow for The Equity Lab, a Washington DC-based fellowship to catalyze movement toward racial equity.

Barrie has served as a Program Director and Policy Board member for Maryland Leadership Workshops, Inc. and an Advisory Board member for DC Area Educators for Social Justice. Barrie earned her B.A. in American Studies from the University of Virginia and her Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Secondary Education from American University. She is the proud mother of two daughters and enjoys exploring DC with her family.
